Fatal Shooting Reported Near Canalport & Jefferson

Chicago — Early morning hours, Pilsen/Near West Side area

Chicago Police responded to a shooting in the vicinity of Canalport Avenue and Jefferson Street at approximately 4:49 a.m. this morning. According to initial reports, a 52-year-old man was shot in the head at the scene.

The victim was pronounced deceased on site, with police classifying the incident under case code 0-1-1-0.

Chicago Police responded to the 1900 block of South Canalport Avenue, near Canalport and Jefferson, at approximately 4:50 a.m. Friday morning. Officers found a 52-year-old man outside with injuries to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the victim’s identity

Area Three detectives have opened a homicide investigation; no arrests have been reported as of this posting
